This past summer was so fun filled for me. It was a wonderful way to meet interesting people. In particular the job coaches, the Carroll Center staff, the job supervisors and of course my friends in the dorm. The other students in the program with me had either low vision or were totally blind. I loved being able to talk with them about our shared experiences. I loved being around them, it was one of the best experiences in my life. Ms. Doktor was so motherly and she helped each one of us a great deal in our job development. I also had girlfriends with whom I just clicked from day one. We had a blast together! Initially I was leery about coming to the Real World of Work Experience program at the Carroll Center, but I got lucky and got a place where someone canceled.

My job placement was at Heritage at Vernon Court, an assisted living facility. There I assisted Melissa Owen the Activities Director. During the summer I learned a lot about communication and self advocacy. I also learned that I’m really not alone in my visual deficiencies. Overall I enjoyed almost everything and I look forward to seeing everyone again this summer!
