Carroll Center announces Braille Challenge finalists from Northeast Regional Braille Literacy Celebration!

We are very proud to announce that nine of 34 students who participated in the
Carroll Center’s Regional Braille Literacy Celebration on February 9th have
been identified by the Braille Institute of America, the program’s host
organization, as having scores which placed them among the top readers and
writers of Braille in their respective age groups, as follows:

Carroll Awards Deadline for Nominations Extended

The Carroll Awards Committee has extended the deadline for submitting nominations to the Carroll Society until April 30, 2008. Several successful candidates have been recently identified and the Committee decided to extend the date to give the nominators ample time for their candidate to be considered.

This year’s Carroll Awards will mark the 26th season of recognizing outstanding blind and visually impaired employees, who have made significant contributions to their organizations through exceptional ability and job performance. The Carroll Awards are a joint effort between The Carroll Center for the Blind and the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.

Karen Ross, Ph.D., V.P. of Educational Services at the Carroll Center, was recently selected as the recipient of the Fr. Carroll Award at the annual conference for the Northeast Chapter of the Assoc. for Education and Rehabilitation held at the Boston/Quincy Marriott Hotel on Nov. 14. This award recognizes an individual known as an innovator, a mover, a shaker, who has a positive impact on the lives of people with visual impairment.

Brian Charlson honored by American Foundation for the Blind

Dick O’Brien, AFB Chairman presents award to Brian Charlson, Carroll Center VP of Technology Training
Brian Charlson, VP of Technology Training, was honored with an award from the American Foundation for the Blind at their recent meeting held at the Carroll Center on Nov 1st. Brian is rotating off of the AFB board, where he completed a 9 year term of service, and was presented with the Trustee Emeritus award by AFB Board Chairman Dick O’Brien. The award was a complete surprise to Brian who was surrounded by his Technology staff at the presentation.
