Now Playing On Your Victor Reader Stream

Books from Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic

The most versatile Victor reader is now able to play books from Recording For The Blind and Dyslexic, (RFB&D). RFB&D offers a wide variety of text and reference books. The textbooks available from RFB&D are used extensively by a wide range of students from elementary school to the PhD level.

The Victor Reader Stream could now be accurately dubbed “the student’s best friend”. It’s 8:15 AM and Jane, a typical blind college student is preparing for a long day of classes and study. Before leaving her dorm room, Jane clips her Victor Reader Stream to her belt.

Smaller than the average television remote control, her stream contains a semester’s worth of RFB&D books, 5 books from the Braille and Talking Book Library, two BookShare titles and the latest best seller from audible.com. IF that weren’t enough, this device also holds 5 of her favorite music compact discs. This device allows Jane to make the most of her study time.

The Stream allows Jane to read her college texts in a manner very similar to that used by her sighted counterparts. She can quickly switch between titles, skim quickly within a book and even highlight the most important passages with bookmarks. In cases where a professor asks students to turn to a given page, the Stream allows Jane to follow right along with the rest of the class. In Past years, Jane would have had to listen to the professor’s comments on important passages of text and re-read the passages later.

RFB&D members must install a user Authorization Key on their Streams to allow them to play the books. They must also copy the books from compact discs mailed to the members. It is not possible to download RFB&D books as it is with the other types of books listed above.

The following specialized compact disc players can play RFB&D. books:

  • The Victor Reader Vibe;
  • The Victor Reader Wave;
  • The Plextalk PTN1 Pro Desktop CD Player;
  • and the Victor Reader Classic X Plus Desktop CD Player;

Software is also available that will allow RFB&D books to be played on desktop and laptop computers as well as the PAC mate and the Maestro.
